A monument with references to real socialist monumental sculptures. What we deal with is the commemoration of a past “heroic age” of the computer, symbolized through an arrangement of over-dimensional keyboard elements.

The work offers a view into the future, since we currently live within the age of computer technology, which started its triumphal procession around the globe at the end of the 1970ies. Eriks Bozis already reports from a new era, when only monuments of such kind publicly will help to remember the past.

The Nikolaisquare, for which the sculpture has been conceived, has already undergone many changes. Recently this place has been chosen to become a kind of center of Styrian economic life. Beside the old „Colonial House“ new buildings have been erected, trying to clearly redefine this place within the district. You can feel a gust of wind from the Financial District, however in miniature version.

In this place, the monument has a special meaning. A newly established economic center and especially the crisis-ridden New Economy focused very much on computer technology. Today, it is unimaginable that this technology might no longer exist one day, and this poses the question how people were able to exist in former times.
